Dirt Work on the Ozark Property

Well, after along wait we have been able to make some progress on the Mt. View place. Last March we had a culvert installed, but no money to begin any work.



After a 7 month "dry spell" the work begins.



Off the county road onto the place.



A "dog leg" bend on our lane after entry to keep people from looking straight up on our place.

A view going up the ridge were our cabin will be.



Pond work in progress. Still about 16 hrs. of work to do. The levee where my Bride on the left is standing with friends needs to come up about 5 ft. That material will be coming from the fore ground where I am standing. Once this is done it should make for a nice deep water hole for raising catfish.

Very nice Property "Pat", where is it Located , is it all Hardwoods , what type of soil do you have , will this grow into a four season location , and have I asked enough Questions .

North Central Arkansas in the middle of the Ozarks.
Mostly oak and hickory with some maple and sumac, some cedar and pine as well.
Great top soil with a clay base.
Diffidently a four season kind of location. but on the milder side.

Looking good Pat. Get to growing some catfish in that pond and maybe some gills like CJ's got and you will have a heck've a food source at your disposal. ;D

There are some seeps on the on the north side of the property that feed towards the pond, but not certain if they are true springs.
We have two drainage's, one is major that will fill the hole quickly.
Thursday night we had a slight rain while we were there that put water in the low end of the pond.
The property has a gradual slope to the south east and that is where the pond is located.
The contractor texted us a few minutes ago that they should be done ahead of schedule and that he would send pics. of the finished product tomorrow. If so I'll post them.
Hopefully we will be stocking fish by April.

As most of you know, one of my favorite things to do is work on a piece of property. I just love improving land, managing timber stands, cutting trails, digging ponds, planting food plots etc. I'm sharing in your excitement Pat. Wish I was closer so I could help you with your project, especially the building of your cabin. I'm a cabin building fool man. ;D

I wished you were closer as well. You are an excellent craftsman.

All I've done since I've been back is plan my next steps in the project, septic system, basement, etc. and researched proper pond management and fish stocking.

I am pumped, I just need to get creative to generate funds for the next step.

Rural water co-op, but I will try drilling in time if the money is available.

Well they finished the pond today. Total dozer time was 31 hours. Not bad for a half acre pond that is 6' plus deep. Another source for animal protein.
Besides the catfish, bluegill and bass it will provide it should also give us some frog legs and mud bugs. Hopefully I will be able to harvest a duck or two from it as well. As we all know water is life and it draws all types of wildlife. This is part of my future retirement plan to feed me and my Bride.



This is the area that needed to come up about 5'. This is a view from the levee looking north to the lane.
