we found some sassafras saplings that the roots were the only thing that was a live so we had some sassafras tea two weeks ago. Any body have an tips for harvesting or making the tea? Not to nlknowledgeable on this subject .
If I remember right-we pulled the roots up, washed them in water to get the dirt off and boiled the roots till the water turned a stained tea like color-let it steep and strained the roots and pieces out -add sugar when hot and enjoy. Just like regular tea the longer you boil it will make it stronger.
It's been over 20 years since I made some , but I believe this is the way I used to make it ;D
The fella that made it peeled the outer skin off of the washed roots and used the peelings. I didn't know whether there was more then one way to "skin a cat" so to speak. lol.
