This is how the wife and I do it.We grow kennebec potatoes.We plant by the moon...we plant potatoes between the full moon and new moon.
We make a trench and drop them in whole.
Throw a good hand full of cow manure right on the potato.
Cover with a couple inches of dirt.
Put a top coat of cow manure on the dirt.
When they are around 6 inches high we hill them.
Hill them again when their around a foot tall.
Watch them grow and keep the potato bugs picked off.
Looking good.
After the tops die back we dig them.
We let them air dry for three days...out of the direct sun.
We store them in the basement in containers.
Cover with a heavy blanket.We should have potatoes left when the new ones come in next year.
