I've hunted my friends property for about 20 years. It 28 acres of hardwood hillside loaded with oaks up top and mutiflora rose down bottom. It's a great piece and I've taken dozens of deer from there including some pretty nice bucks. Jim, the owner, bought a townhouse in "The Villages" in Florida and for the past couple years he spends from October to May down there. I just found out the property is going up for sale in the spring. Over the summer he had a crew come in and haul out a bunch of crap that's accumulated over the last 40 years. There are only two of us that have permission to hunt on the property. We met up there today to do some co-ordinated tree stand placement. First thing I see in the woods is a brightly colored rope hanging in a tree. I thought some one was up there without permission until I realized the work crew must have left it. About 20 feet of nylon braided 1" diameter rope with a pretty heavy duty chain hook.
I got it out of the tree and started walking through the woods going down hill to a spot I wanted to put a stand up. I look down a find a pack sack laying on the ground. It looks like it's been there a couple of years. In it are: 4 knives including one Outdoor Edge caping knife. The others are Smith and Wesson branded. A little bit of rust but it will clean up with transmission fluid and steel wool. Also a deer drag, a box of fluorescent thumbtacks. two flash lights, a butt-out tool, a couple pairs of rubber gloves, 4 light sticks, flagging tape and a urine bag (thankfully not used)! Some one must have been doing some sneak hunting up there and dropped it or forgot where they put it down.
