Me and my dad make maple syrup every year we started about three or four years ago. we produce about ten gallons a year out of about five trash cans full of sap.
I have one sugar maple on my property. Would like to take a sap from it to try to make a little syrup. Where do you get the drains for the sap??? hope I said that right. The parts that go into the tree that you put the pails on. The middle of Febuary our tree will make The ground wet with sap that just leeks out of it. I have tried it and it is very sweet.
It might be a little hard to find "spoils" in your part of the country. We have LOTS of sugar making around here. You can find them in the local hardware stores, or sugar making supply stores. The local TSC store has them.
