There are a lot of dependants here, I'm not a hog man I just like to eat them. (200-300#) Depends on the size of the family your feeding and how hungry they are, if you are doing it yourself and how much time you can put into it. You know what they say about dogs, "if you have a black dog and a white dog from the same litter which will grow the fastest?"A- The one you feed the most ;D. Not trying to be smart, just pour it to him and when he's big enough for ya, let him have it. He want eat enough to hurt him . If he's not too big,50# or less(may want to check w/someone else) I'd get rid of that tail, if he's got one. JMO:(. I'm sure this isn't what you expected but it's all I got.

It's was back in the 80's the last time we butchered a hog but if I remember right keep them 6 to 8 months . We got them in the spring and butchered them in the winter .
I raise hogs every year and alot depends on what they are feed.I feed mine mostly pig feed from the local Mill,I get them at 50# and at about 5 months they are around 230# I get my spring pigs in April by Aug/Sept they are ready.
question to you pig experts, I was thinking about sowing my garden to turnips in the late summer, and turning a couple (or maybe only one) pig(s) in on it when the turnips matured in the fall after the first good frost. You think this would be a good way to finish off a hog before butchering? Maybe mix in some sugar beets with the turnips?
