Got me a Food Saver vaccum sealer about 6 months ago. Good for sealing stuff up in small sizes to take up less space in the freezer, but does everything have to be frozen, or kept cold after its sealed?
Reason I ask is that I see a lot of food out there that are sealed, that are never refrigerated. Uncle Bens Rice and Beans is just in a sealed plastic pouch, kept at room temperature on the grocery store shelf. There's also a lot of stews, and other foods that I see like that.
Just curious if my unit would allow me to (for example) seal up a bag of rice and beans with chicken and sausage, throw it in a backpack and eat it while I'm out hunting for the day, like the stuff thats in the stores?
Hope my question makes sense..thanks for the info!

Yea but what about the times I go through the drive thru and don't have pants on?---Maritimer
Good question Cam. I don't know what they do to the food to allow it to sit on the shelf like that. I would think that anything with meat would have to be pressure canned just like when canning with glass jars. I doubt just vac sealing would be the answer but I'm curious to see what others have to say about this. Good topic. ;D
