hey guys, got a couple emails on how I do my beaver tail leather. Its just a hobby but have made some stuff in the past with it. heres the process on the first video

That box was a noggin scratcher for sure, very fun to build though. My wife sure liked it. I guess I'm fortunate that what she likes are the things I spend effort on. A long time ago I built furniture and small pieces for competition. Based on difficulty, style and design. At the time I wanted to win. Came close a couple times, looking back, I realized that I forgot why I love to build, and decide to not build for that kind of thing anymore. Now I just build for my own style. Way more fun, cause I don't have critics telling me what's "wrong with it". Like trapping, there's no wrong set. Just difference in opinion ;D

The beaver tail joints, do you make them by hand or do you use a jig ?
Very nice crafty box... wife must be proud & happy.... ;D

The Dove tail joint are not cut with a jig. I do have a nice router table and fence built. So it required a lot of set ups. My wife actually loves it. Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks for the reply.... Have 2 routers & barely did anything with them.. I should try harder at doing things with them Have to learn how to use them first

You know I have had several emails on making dovetails. I think I will whip out a video and share it. It's not hard once your setup. Blind ones are easier than full dovetails.

That vid on dove tails would be awsome garret..did you tan your tails yourself or send them away? I know ive read where folks render black oil from the beaver tails. Can you still use the tail after and get the same result or is it all from the hide? Awsome work old boy karma coming your way on this one.. ;D ;D

Barkspud. Rendering the oil is not much different than frying the fat on the tail. And pouring it into a bottle. I tanned them myself, there are a couple methods at the end of the skinning video there are some instruction for tanning. It's like tanning a snake skin.

I have always loved woodworking. I'm also really enjoying making videos. For the most part I get kind words and good feed back so far
