When do you guys pull your vegetable plants?

This was my first year having my own vegetable garden. When should I pick the remainder of the veggies I have and pull the plants up, to till the garden bed for next year?

Personally as long as my plants are still producing vegetables then I keep them in the ground. Once the mornings begin to get frosty, it usually means its time to start cleaning up for the year.

Right on "Bhag".....as long as they are producing I'd leave them in. You'll notice when they slow down. Late crops like pumpkin should be coming in pretty well by now and you can leave them for a few more weeks for sure. Just watch your plants and listen to them..........they'll tell you when they're done.

yep as soon as things start to stop producing I start pulling.

Pretty much when they quite supplying me. The bell peppers are pretty hardy, and can take a few punches of light frost.

There are some good suggestions from seasoned growers being offered here. If nothings is being produced, or if disease has struck, save what you can. I got a surprise with my tomato plants this year, and ended up with a lot of ripe tomatoes that I couldn't see, and had to can when I discovered them. Oops! At least I got most of them, and there are still some that will continue to ripen over the next couple weeks.

If you use astrology, you can consider the two week time period after the next Full Moon, the Harvest Moon, which is exact at 07:13 AM EST (eastern standard time), September 19. After any Full Moon, things gradually die down, and go away, just like my own tomato plant garden died down since the last Full Moon.

Thanks, John. I'm always here to offer my opinion. But you know what they say about opinions. They're like a$$holes...they all stink, and everyone has one!

I keep my plants in until they stop producing. No sense in pulling the plug if they are still putting out. Sometimes my tomatoes get pulled early if they get a blight.
