Hey guys, Here is a laundry detergent recipe that my wife has been using for about a year or so. It's reletively inexpensive to make and lasts quite a while.
INGREDIENTS 1 (4 lb 12 oz) box of Borax 1 (3 lb 7 oz) box of Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda 1 (4 lb) box of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda 1 (3 lb) container of Oxyclean 2 (14.1 oz) bars of Zote Soap (available at any "Big Lots" store for about $.90. If you pay more than a dollar you are paying to much.)
OPTIONAL (for fragrance) Fabric enhancer such as Purex crystals or Downy Unstoppables
DIRECTIONS Grate the Zote Soap with a cheese grater. Mix all of the ingredients together in a large bucket and use approximately 2-4 Tbsp per load.
Total cost to make this detergent is less than $25. My wife was able to wash clothes for a family of 4 for just over 3 months with one batch. It's very easy to spend 3-4 times that much on commercial detergents......hope this helps you folks squeeze a little more out of your dollars!
It contains Borax, Arm and Hammer wash soda, and Fels Naptha. I can make up a 5 gallon batch in less than an hour and the stuff lasts for months. Costs pennies to make too!
Use it up, wear it out. Make it do, or do without![/b]
