Every year, I keep telling myself that all I need out back to finish off some nice dove habitat, for some decent hunts, is to just get some food plots in for them. I have water, and roosts, just needed that final piece of the puzzle. Well, I had today off work, and since the ground is still a bit damp and inch or so down, I fired up the Alis and tiller.
I managed to get 6 strips tilled up, about 12 feet wide, and 60 yards long, each. When my buddy Bruce comes down in a week to spread cow poop in the garden, he'll make another trip, and run some manure down each strip for me. I'll then till that in before winter. Next spring, the sunflowers will be planted in the strips. Finally nice to see this started.
Awesome preparation and Grid Layout "CJ", you have definitely created a Wild Bird Haven and one which will well used by many Species of Fields and Fauna, which exist in your Area.

When the time is right you can add a few pits layered with plastic sheets, small gravel, then fill with water they will never leave.

Jimmy, Karma to ya for reminding me. While I won't put in the pits, these strips are only about 40 yards from my 10 acre wetlands. I think favoring the shallow end, towards the food strips, I'll lay down that plastic in a section, and cover with small gravel.....make a small beach of sorts. ;D
Thanks for karma CT, I saw that this year at my Buddies place Hunting Deer. The guy who leases the property puts on a Dove hunt every year and only one or two so it's a complete Dove smack down. I went Coyote hunting while 40 or more Law Men, and other special invites worked that field the one afternoon. The tally was over 550 Birds!
Here is to your power lines being filled with Doves all day

Well, yesterday after work, my farmer buddy finished spreading cow manure down all the strips. I got everything mowed around them last night, and if we don't get hit with too much rain today, will get the manure tilled into the strips tonight. Things are coming together on this nicely, and already looking forward to getting them planted next spring. I'll see if I can gets some updated pics up Friday ;D
