Cant trust anyone these days

A week or two ago we bought about 35 calfs. and it was still pretty cold out. and every week we lost about 5 or six we knew it wasent all the cold so we had a vet come and check out the ones that were still kicking. turns put every single one of those calfs we bought had ecolie(not sure i spelled that right) we really got ripped off with this deal. the guy we got them from swears they were all clean when we got them but there is now way that got it in one day that they were coming to are farm.

A simple remedy for that kind of stuff is to always purchase at least one other piece of your inventory from a different source. If you had several other calves from a different source that were fine.......that guy would have had a problem. Diversity.

At this point I'm only buying piglets and layers for my farm. I always buy from a trusted source, pay a little more but it always works out ok in the end. I hate going to livestock auctions, and I've been on farms were I would not buy anything off them.

Im a rookie so we are spending a little extra and having a vet check/vaccinate anything we buy. Cheap insurance when calves are running close to $1000 each.
