Well it's that time of year again, I broke out the pres and had the girls picking apples. We ended up making and canning about 5 gallons. I had to trim all of the apples though since most of them had a bug or worm hole and some rot in the core.
Well it's that time of year again, I broke out the pres and had the girls picking apples. We ended up making and canning about 5 gallons. I had to trim all of the apples though since most of them had a bug or worm hole and some rot in the core.
Working on it as a family I think we spent about 5 hours from the time we started to the time I pulled the last quart jar out of the water bath canner. The three girls were picking the apples then soaking them in bleach water then rinsing them and placing the apples on the table for me. I slice them into quarters and feed them to the grinder while the wife clears any jams in the grinder. Making the juice probably only took 2 hours including clean up. The pasturizing and canning is kinda slow.
