Great idea! Doesn't look like I'll be able to get a hive this spring but I've been gathering some supplies little by little I be ready for next spring or even a mid summer give split with a relative.

Thanks Brad for starting this thread. I hope many folks get interested in keeping bees because of this. Here are two videos showing adding bees to a new hive. Poor video but you see what is happening.

Here is a comb with honey on top and brood in the middle. The capped honey is white and the capped brood is tan.

Thanks for the new thread, Brad. Good idea, as usual.

Just ordered replacement packages last week as my bees didn't make it through the last cold snap. Thinking of moving the bee yard to a little more sheltered area (and that means rebuilding the electric fence to keep yogi out) and better get that done before the packages arrive.  Spring can be so busy...

Attachment Deleted My two year old hive, picture taken about three weeks ago. I picked these up as a swarm on a trailer tongue at my shop in town. One of my best free finds ever.

Thank you for the Karma my friend, it was cool to see the girls flying on a warm day with snow on the ground. I need to rotate the boxes and clean up my bottom board first nice day we have again. Think i'm going to split the hive this spring also.

I would love to make some splits this spring but I live right in town and already am pushing it. If I ever get a place in the country again I want to build way up!

When I listed my farm last spring and did a big clean up I sold just about all my equipment. (to my real estate agent,Hmm) So Today I ordered frames with foundation installed and two inner covers. If I spent another $40. I would get free shipping, verses $22 for shipping. Sooo I picked up a couple other things. I should get my boxes switched around this Sunday and be ready to split in another week or so.
