Opinion's wanted on the location of my first veggie garden

Hi all got a question about the location of my first garden. Now let me start off by saying that my property is .76 acres with a septic tank directly behind the house and a leach field that is rather small. There is a junction box and 1 pipe that runes about 35 to 40 yards off that box around 4-5 ft deep. It has about a foot or so of rocks below and on top of it before the soil starts. My question is because my property is so small I would like to put my garden in close proximity to the leach field. Please keep in mind it will not be directly over the pipe however it will be about 5 feet to the side of the pipe at its end. Will my plants run the risk of contaminating from the leach field or should I be okay?. Thank for the responses in advance.

Sounds like maybe raised beds would be a good option for you, that would get you 6-10" above your soil now if you were worried about contamination, just a thought.

Raised beds will be your best bet. Best of luck my friend!

The leach field will not contaminate your plants. They might grow out of control though. You would not want to grow plants that don't like wet feet directly over it. I would have no concern about growing directly over that pipe.

The only problem I see is turning the soil over the leach line; If it stays soggy you might be better off leaving it be.
