Need Suggestion for Homemade Pesticide?

I WILL NOT use chemicals on my vegetable plants, however, those pesky little insects seem to be enjoying some of my plants before I get to!

Anyone have any suggestions on making a home made pesticide that is natural? I've heard about using Dawn dish soap and water, but not to sure....

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Depending on the bug, soapy water with some hot pepper sauce will work. Mostly soft bodied insects like aphids. Potato bugs hand pick and drop in a jar of soapy water. Dia(i cant think how to spell it)earth works around the base of plants to keep crawling critters from accessing the plants. Lady bugs are not to expensive and kind be fun to watch attack bugs. Few ideas for ya john, hope your feel better.

I usually plant Marigolds and Nasturtiums for bug control. Not sure how well they work, but they do look good. Personally I use Sevin(sparingly) on certain plants early before the vegetable appears. Broccoli(green worm), eggplant(flea beatles) are the main ones for me, hit them early and they aren't much of a problem.

I use a stuff call captain jacks dead bug brew made by bonide, for organic gardening. Dose me just fine. If you can find peppermint oil that is a repellant also.

Like rendy said marigolds and a number of other flowers are suppose to be a deterant also.

If you go to Tractor Supply or English Gardens (the one on Hall Road is a good one) they will have a lot of organic stuff. But like js said I use the stuff from Bonide. Organic and works well. Both places sell the Bonide stuff.

They actually work great as fishing bait -- last yea I was almost sad to see we managed to exterminate them since I had to find something else for my hooks.

POTATO BUGS... GET YOUR POTATO bugs here. great for fishing bait....all you need. three dozen for $3.00 plus shipping. I've got biting flies, house flies and ticks if ya can use them too.(chiggers are to hard to pick up unless I use my azz and ankles)
