Today I tore open a hive for the first time with someone who has two hives. Was very cool and amazing how calm the bees were and didn't seem to care what was going on. Can't wait to start my own hives next spring.
Thanks histopicker. I was just amazed how little care they had when I was holding the frames and pulling them out. She didn't even smoke them before opening it up. And she wasn't even wearing gloves messing with stuff. I have less then a year to get all the stuff and have it ready for a good start next spring.
One hive we put a honey super on. And the other hive had the first queen die this year so it was on its second one and laging behind so that one just got the second brood box put on. We were able to locate the queen in both hives too
Enjoy the learning hoseromon. Great feeling the first time you enter a hive. Having a good mentor beek will help your process go a lot smoother. Learn from others mistakes, it is a lot easier and less costly.
Will be looking forward to progress towards your own hives - yup, no one can have just one.
