Many of you have gardens and grow your own veggies/fruits. We all know of the dreaded little holes that will show up on the leaves of our otherwise healthy plants! So, I was thinking about starting this thread to have all of the Swampers share their homemade pesticide remedies. Using regular household products, no harmful chemicals (because who wants that on homegrown food!?!).
I’ll share a mixture I am trying out this year with you…
Mix these ingredients separate… 4 Tablespoons of Dawn liquid dish soap 2 Cups of Vegetable oil
Then add 4 teaspoons of the mixture into a spray bottle with 16oz of water. Shake well and spray on plants.
This is supposed to stop those bugs from eating the leaves and not harm helpful insect, like lady bugs, in the veggie garden.
Sound off Swampers! What are YOUR homemade pest solutions??
OBSESSED: A word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.
I'm definitely following this one. If I wanted to eat food covered in poison I would buy produce at the grocery store. Looking forward to seeing some answers!
One large onion One large head of garlic 1 TSP of cayenne pepper powder 1 Qt of water 1 TBS of dish soap. Piece of cheesecloth Spray Bottle
Pulp down the onion and garlic in a food processor. No need to peel them. Just toss them in and get them pureed down to a liquid mush. Put them in a pan with the water and the cayenne and put it on the stove to simmer for about an hr. Note here, the odor can be pretty strong so you may want to do this outside. After simmering let it cool until you can work with it.
Put the dish soap in the spray bottle and strain the cooled mixture through the cheesecloth into the bottle. Squeeze out as much liquid from the pulp and you can. Toss the pulp into the compost bin and then give the bottle a shake to mix the soap and strained liquid. Spray on plants after watering. Don't know why but most bugs can't stand this mixture and get out of the area.
LEAD, FOLLOW OR GET OUT OF THE WAY! I'M COMING THROUGH NO MATTER WHICH YOU CHOOSE.
