I starting to think I have quail mania, I now have 3 quail cages built, One's a big double hutch an the other 2 are singles. Going to buy a commercial grade incubator. So this next year I'm looking at raising some more Coturnix, some Texas A&M's, and some Bob Whites.
I have had luck lately finding other quail breeder's, seems like everyone raises Bob Whites, so I want to try the Snow Flake Bob's. Got one guy not far and we've, more or less agreed to trade birds for some genetic difference. If I get my operation off the ground.
Were expecting eggs from the chickens an the quail right now, any day. Family an friends are lining up for eggs, but Dang, I want some also. The wife has really taken to the chickens, they're pretty much out of my hands, anymore. She does all the chores, an has got the dang things where they love to be petted. WTF there chickens......
But I've got a problem, Fruggin CATS. An the lady next door isn't helping. She sets food out for the dang things, She's a 100% animal activist, I think she hits the bottle to hard, but the wife says (she's just Goofy). Ya "REALLY GOOFY". But she is attracting cats, an I keep finding them in my yard eyeing up my birds.
Plus she's feeding the coons an possums, she goes out to a couple bakeries and collect yesterday's goods, an feeds it to the critters in the back yard. I've got something trying to get into my garbage pretty much nightly.
Problem is, around here, if I take them out, more will just show up. Either one, coons or the cats, I used to not worry about it so much, but now with the birds out back, its hard to not run out there when the security light comes on.
I may have to do it, i might be in the market for another dog, I really didn't want another one after we lost our lab "Snuffy" but it may be the best deterrent I could get. How are beagles, are they easy to train. How about training them to run rabbits? This would become a house dog most likely, how are they on detecting things out side.
