Found a honey bee on a piece of yellow foam today it got up to 65* here today too warm for this time of year it was cool I put my finger by her and she climbed on it my brother was freaking out said I was going to get stung I told him to be cool and she will be good I've been doing a lot of research on beekeeping and I'm going to give it a shot going to build a top bar swarm trap soon and if I get a swarm I'll make a top bar hive or two
I'm a lot further south than you are, the bees down here have been working something for a while now.
every now and then I'll sit by the hive and watch, the other day I saw two drones land and go in the hive. So that tells me the new bees are hatching now.. because the hive doesn't take drones through the winter.. when I get a chance I'll put out a catch box somewhere near the hive in case we get a swarm out of it.
Good Luck with the bees PJ
I know the honey bee isn't native to the Americas but I think they are telling us something about our food and water we need to know.. If I can keep healthy bees on my small plot and garden then maybe we can live healthy lives ourselves.
