First eats of the year from the garden.

Picked some beet greens, kale, swiss chard and chives and tossed them in the steamer today. Tasty Tasty! And to think some of you poor blokes are still wading snow.

Note: The kale, beets and chard are from planters from last year and not this springs planting and the chives grow year round down this way.

Sounds delicious! Finally had enough asparagus for a meal last night. I love all the fresh stuff from the garden this time of year.

Heard from a wise trapper here in West WI that his asparagus is popping.  Mine is still hiding, but the rubbard is about 6 inches as of this afternoon.  Pie, crisp, or sauce won't be far behind.  Love spring.

Finally starting to see some asparagus pop through. Any tips on the best way to fertilize a patch of asparagus?

Grandpa was partial to horse road apples, but after the horse met its maker, he just used plenty of cow manure - dried / and aged.  It could have been BS but since we \had dairy cows, I'll stick with cow manure. 

Those strawberry leaves I see in that picture?

I actually do have a patch of wild strawberries back there. I noticed them last year but the frost took care of any fruit before it got started. Looking forward to what happens this year.

I would check the soil ph first if it's too high ( acidic) your plants will not take full advantage of the fertilizer lime could be your best friend
