Building activity boards , for the hospital

I got a request to build several activity boards , my daughter is a nurse in a long term care wing of the local hospital. There is a need to help in rehabilitating patients, strokes, dementia etc.




these boards have various common items on the , things that turn , a switch and receptacle, complete with a cord to plug in . several locks and keys. a door knob that works. a pair of hinges ,a lawn mower wheel, plus a lot of other stuff. apparently they can keep busy , fiddling with them . I am also going to build a board with different sized bolts, metric and regular. That they can match nuts and washers up. Put them on and take them off again. Apparently this is good to improve motor skills after a stroke. may include several wrenches, as well. I am making all this from stuff that is laying around my shop. Lots of good shop time. old243

I spoke to my daughter about building a couple of more boards, for the hospital. My shop has a multitude of stuff in it. The first four , That I had built were keeping her patients occupied , hour after hour. The ones I built , last week were a bit different. I understand that things that turn, wiggle, or make a noise are hits. They both had an old lawn mower wheel, mounted in the center. Then an adjustable wrench, mounted on a bolt, but so that it could be adjusted, and moved. I mounted an old pair of pliers on the other side, screwed to the board but one handle can move, they don't go completely shut , so fingers can't get pinched. I had a shed, off an 8 point buck screwed. to the upper corner. The other corner has the pick up from a tv dish, screwed on. The spring bumper to mount behind a door are , a real popular item, as they make a racket, when played with.  This is on a 20 inch square piece of white board. If anyone decides to make one , have a handle at the top, so the nurse can carry it around, they are fairly heavy. If you know of a nursing home or long term care wing, see if they would use one. You can make they out of stuff, that you have laying around, your shop. They are really good for folks recovering from a stroke, to get their co-ordination back, old243
