making some bird houses and bird feeders

The last couple of years , my wife and I have made bird houses for the local hospital, long term wing. The patients paint them and sell tickets to the staff, outside the cafeteria, kind of a captive audience. They use the money raised for craft supplies. My daughter is the head nurse in this wing.


This time our 4 bird houses are built with old weathered barn boards. Kind of rustic, but look good. We also made two bird feeders, one to raffle the other for outside the window so the patients can watch the birds. This makes us a project, and helps the patients. old243

Bravo!  Well done!  Inspirational!  Sounds like we may pirate your idea and do the same here in WI with my 12 year old.  Our land is adjacent to a retired convent that I think the residents would enjoy.

My daughter delivered the bird houses and the bird feeder to the hospital. When the staff seen them they wanted to buy them. The bird houses sold for 25.00 each and the feeder for 45.00. 145.00 into the patients kitty to buy craft supplies  , or what they require.   She stressed that they were mostly made out of recycled material, those folks tend to be a bit green. old 243
