anyone know about turtle trapping in NY?

i was just wondering if NY even allows turtle trapping? i checked their website and see nothing even remotely mentioned on the subject.

after seeing all the posts on here about it, i was thinking of maybe giving it a try.

I don't think there's any regulations for it here. I asked them what the regulations were for trapping crawfish and they just shrugged their shoulders at me. Chances are it's the same way with turtles. I'd call the DEC.

I think the only thing we have to be careful of is eating any water creature in NY. Pretty sad aint it?

According to NYS law listed in the Hunting Rulebook in '05-'06 snapping turtles were unprotected and could be taken in any number by any means but any other type of turtle as far as I know is protected(Not that painted turtles make good eattin anyway...) In the '06-'07 Hunting Rulebook snapping turtles are no longer listed under unregulated species, so I don't know if they changed it, or if they just forgot to add them too the list. I'm double checking next weekend when I go home...Ahh the joys of living 5 minutes from Albany, I can practically see the DEC headquarters from my house :-D
