I'm getting pretty excited. The farmer took the winter wheat off, and the contractor started bringing some equipment out to the property last night. As soon as the field is baled, construction will be underway. The contractor said it should take 8 to 12 days to complete the project. Of the 10 acres of wetlands, almost 5 will be under water. The rule of thumb on these is to not let the wetlands exceed 3 feet, however, because of the natural slopes and dips in the property, I'll have certain sections approachnig 5 to 7 feet in depth. I'll post progress pics as it comes along.
Take lots of pics. It'll be cool to follow the progress on this. I'm going to look into doing something similar on the 23 acres I'm in the process of buying.
Have no idea yet Porter....the pan he brought out last night is a 292 Han-c-o-c-k
In the pic below (taken last year) the entire field area (north of the road) will be marsh, with a 125 foot cool season grass strip for the Quail Program.
No Porter. If you look at the pic, I have plenty of trees surrounding the area, most of which are Elm, Oak and Hickory trees. I will more than likely plant Rye, Sorghum, Vescue, Oats, Millet and BlueStem around the wetlands.
