This AM an excavator and dozer started to work on our old pond. Been a long wait to find the right guys to hire. I will stock with minnows first, then later with bass and blue gills as that combo seems to work best in this region. I should have pics later, took a couple already.
Questions. Should I lime the hard clay, highly acidic ground before it fills in? What should I plant? I have lots of wild flower seeds for next spring. Clover? Anything else I can do to enhance the habitat? Thanks.
i would never stock gills. Ours friends did and now they have no bass or nothing in there bond. They got it drained and dug out more then re-stocked it with a bunch of catfish and bass.

Might be a regional thing Ga. It seems to work opposite that here. Cats and crappie will take over if introduced, and become stunted. I think they spawn sooner than bass and eat the fry. This is my experience and I'm not a biologist nor pretend to be, that's why I ask for all opinions. I can get shiners and flatheads by the pound and that's what I plan to start with.
Hey and the Paris Island trip went well, thanks for the tips. Seven hundred some new men from boys saying oo-rah, glad those bad boys and girls are on our team. We had tears of pride.

No, never found it. In fact with the influx of all the marine families, all restaurants were packed, and prices marked up. My claustrophobia was flaring up lol. We mainly ate from grocery store and charcoal grille while in that area. And fresh oranges, I lived on those. Ours here do not compare. A retired Marine Master Sargent from our family did help us get around the crowds. I was impressed by our southern brothers.
Yes there are some great people but just about everyone outside of the base doesnt have any high school edumacation. Also Forest Gump was filmed in Beaufort incase ya didnt know that. Also if you every want a good place to stay during the summer go rent a house on Fripp Island. Its about 15min from the main part of Beaufort. Also you should of ate at STEAMERS and you should of got a SHRIMP BUGER!!

Thinking about the blue gill thing. I think the gills spawn here on every full moon in warm weather. So in the south were Ga lives, they might spawn most all year long, becoming over run. Or could be a day length thing. Then again, maybe I'm all wet.
I'll get the kids to help with the pics later. Hope I am taking them proper.

In second pic, to the left is what remains of my staghorn sumac patch, oh well. In third pic you can see how they tied up the over head lines for clearance for track hoe. That green truck served me well for 13 years in contracting. 400 4bbl, 12 bolt posi, turbo 425. Could of sold it often, but people want it for junk price. The last guy I told him the drive train was worth more than his ride. It's raining pretty good now. The dozer is coming back later after things dry up to final grade. I have a spring tooth and chain harrows that I will use with tractor to finish. The pic I missed was the track hoe doing a side wheelie about two feet high. Pretty cool huh.
Definately cool. I just may have to look into what something like that would cost me here. It may help that my wifes grampa ownes the company, them again, maybe not. ;D
