Anybody ever do anything with food dehydrators? I bought one at one time to use for jerky, but never used it. Ended up selling it at a garage sale. I wish that I would have at least tried some fruits or something. Have you ever dried fruits or jerky or anything else in the oven?
I have used the Dehydrators mostly to make jerky, But have dried vegetables to use in soups. I found one that was naver used for $5.00 at a yard sale. Works great I never tried using the oven to dry but have been told if you set the oven to 200 this works also.
I have an electric one, but I'm not crazy about it. I would love to build a solar one. It would dry things more evenly and best of all, use no electricity!
Use it up, wear it out. Make it do, or do without![/b]
Also when using the oven keep the door open a crack. I squish a soda can down to about how far I want the oven to stay open. As what redneck93 said this will help to keep your jerky from cooking. My mother used to do fruit with her dehydrator and it turned out really good.

you could also do it the native american way and dry it on a rack outside on a nice day. ive never personaly did it that way but i plan on trying it this summer.
fish the wators, hunt the woods, plow the fields, walk with God, love nature.
I have heard if you frame screen and make two squares one to go under the food and one to go over you can set this outside and its suppose to work pretty well and if you are willing to risk your car smelling like food on a hot day it can go in your car to speed up process
