what kind of mushroom (pics)

while going through the woods today i found this growing on the side of a tree dont know what kind of mushroom it is if it is good to eat please tell me a good way to fix it also

i'm not sure what kind that is i have a field hunters guide book the bad thing about mushrooms is there is no first aid once u start to feel sick its to late it kills ur liver never eat any mushrooms unless you are completely sure of what ur eating

Where did you find that? Don't know what it is but I've never heard anything nutritionally imperitive(how about that fancy $#it) about 'shrooms anyway other than flavor. Personally, I'm gonna stick w/morels & hens.

oyster mushroom were there more around or just the one?

i always washed mine dusted with flour and fried in bacon renderings. just cut the entire stem off or it will be tough.

It looks like an oyster mushroom if there were more than it most likely is and they are yummy but if you aren't sure yourself then don't eat it

Im not sure what those are called but because of the wood characteristics of it, in the past, I have used them for woid burning wildlife sceens on them. Ive also seen others carved as well.
I would advise not trying to eat it.

Now that I see the bigger photo on my computer and not my phone, it's not what I thought might be known as Bracket fungus.
What you have there is a mystery to me.

was it growing on wood or on the ground, oysters grow on wood dead or dying wood mainly,never on the ground
