Methods of Starting a Fire

Other than a lighter or matches, anyone have any sure fire ways to get a fire going?
I watch a Canadian show called "Survivorman" and he is always trying different methods to get a fire going.

One that I remember is the Fire Piston


Works like a compression ignition engine. A tight fitting insert is slammed down into the sleeve and the compression makes heat and if there's a tiny bit of dry tinder inside, it will spark and give you a small coal to work with. Never have to worry about lighter fluid or running out of matches.

Another method was with a flashlight. He takes it apart and breaks the bulb, being careful not to damage the filament inside. Puts it all back together minus the clear lens. Places a little dry tinder in the top where the lens has been removed and the filament is exposed, and turns it on. Flames within a few seconds.

I have always wanted to try starting a fire with the stick & bow method but never tried it.

I've never seen that piston thingy you have there. Pretty interesting

I've heard of the fire piston and actually found schematics for it online and seemed fairly simple to make. I've made fire with flint and steel, and with a 9 v battery and steel wool.

There is a new show out called Dual survivor. One of the fellows on it is Dave Cantaberry from OHio and this guy knows his stuff. He has a long list of youtube videos on survival stuff. Well on the show he used a car battery and I think it was wire scrounged from the car. The basics of this is to create a short to get the metal hot enough to catch tinder alight.
