apple trees [maybe wrong section]

I have a neighbor cutting down 100 year old apple trees that were always bearing ...in town. These trees have been there since before MY GRANDPARENTS LIVED THERE. i WANTED TO TRY TO GET SOME SEEDS AND START NEW IN MY PLACE. Any suggestion how to get them gong from seeds , can it be done? I may try to graft some too but hot and bad time of year .HELP....Granny smiths, McIntosh, and some others my grandma used to make GREAT pies from- these will not be for me but my legacy and Grandkids maybe ---a shame they have no idea what they do...city folks...this is happening right now ....

I'm not sure how exactly it's done, but maybe look into grafting. That would be quicker than trying to grow them from seed.

I'm with mike on this one. I don't know anything about grafting but I'm sure there's info to be found on the internet. There's also a product called rootone or something like that. It's a growth hormone or something similar that suppose to stimultate root growth from cuttings from branches. I have never used it myself but I've heard that you could rub it on the cut send of tree branches and soak the cut end in water and it would sprout roots.
Again, I've never used it but it might be worth looking into and quicker than seeds.

oh BTW- the seed , there are apples of maybe 4" now on the ground so I thought maybe there would be seed in them??? IS THAT WRONG?
