Who in here is going to be tapping maple trees?

I'm just wondering who in here taps maple trees and makes their own syrup.

The only time I ever tapped trees was back in the 80's when I lived in a backwoods cabin with a bunch of nothin. I boiled sap in a bucket over a fire. The result was a dark syrup that eventually formed sugar crystals in the jar. It was awesome. ;D I haven't done it since but hope to give it another go someday. Thanks for bringing back the memory

I have done it a few times.. I like it a lot better then the stuff from the store..

I usually try to make a bit. The big problem is , it starts running the same time I'm trying to get my spring beaver line going

you bet i do it is my second year and i love it. it gives me something to do while i wait for spring rat trapping to start and i am addicted to the smell of the sap boiling :-*it is just as good as beaver castors i have some problems with stuff building up in it after i filter it. it looks like a looggy type thing. only problem is that it doesn't come soon enough

I run a dozen taps a year. That gives me a years supply. The price of real syrup it is worth the work. The kids love doing it too. My oldest will drink the sap when outside playing.

The first time I boiled up some sap, I did it in the kitchen. Since then, I've done it outside so the walls & ceiling doesnt get all sticky like.

I've been tapped for 3 weeks and finally had a good run yesterday

I have 20 trees tapped. Collected 10 gallons of sap.
It's not a lot but a start.

i started tapping last sunday and i got 16 gallons so far from 12 taps.
i tapped 6 more trees today so hopefully get a littler more sap before it stops running

I don't do any tapping myself but I do help my Buddy with his he usually got bout 100-150 taps out.it a fun day hanging out in the sugar shack.

It's been cold enough here that it hasn't run in the last week.
