I'm posting this here to help encourage folks to pursue their wants, wishes and ideas. Life is too short not to.
When I was younger, I busted balls in the carpentry business. There were times I enjoyed some of it, but for the mostpart, I drove long distances and busted a** and hated my my job and my dickhead boss. I did it because the money was great and then later worked for myself cause the money was greater. Still busting my balls though and working in dangerous situations and a lot of time with a bunch of dickheads and still... hating my job. I did it for the money. During this time, through all my carpentry years, I seesawed back and forth from my art business and my carpentry business. The art shows had me running all over the east coast and there were times that the shows paid off big, but lots of shows whith lesser paychecks. Through all the years of "show business" I watched the food booths have long lines in front of them. I always said "one of these days I'm just going to sell food".
Well, as most of you know, I started a food line last year and sooooo fricken glad I did this. I no longer have to target high dollar crowds to have my shows pay off. It doesn't matter where I set up, be it a street fair, home show, bluegrass festival or a trappers rendezvous, I'm busy all day. Yesterday I spent the day at a local windery. They were holding a festival with live music and free booth space for the vendors. What an awesome time and such a great way to earn money. They were serving wine shushies so everyone was happy and spendy. Awesome music all day long, tons of people and like usual, they were all gathering at the food booths. What a hoot. We pulled in s**tloads of money and the only thing they can buy at my booth and eat right away is jerky and meat snacks. The majority of our sales weren't even food per say, it was seasonings and mixes that they have to add their own food to. Now how fricken cool is that? All those years of working and hating my job and now having an absolute ball and pulling a weeks paycheck in a day of fun. Why didn't I do this 20 years ago? If I was selling art yesterday, I'm certain I wouldn't have totalled out very good. When money is tight, people just don't spend much on non essential items like art & crafts, food however will still have them pulling their wallets out. so nice to be on this side of the fence for a change and no more dickhead boss.
