5 minutes on the phone could save you $$$$

About once every 6 months to a year, I'll call businesses I get bills from each month, and say 'I've recently got better offers, what can you do?". Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. But, it's worth trying. Most of the numbers are toll free 800 numbers, so all you're really out is a few minutes of your time.

I called my current cable provider a bit ago, and said I've gotten some pretty good offers from their competitor. After a bit of haggling, they gave me a $40 credit towards my next bill, and knocked off $10 a month for the next 12 months. That 5 minute call saved me $160 over the next year

Not too long ago, I called my CC company, and after a few minutes, got them to drop my % rate a couple point

Am I the only tight-arse that does this?

I come from a long line of cheapasses, and I am one too. My mom calls the cable company every now and then and gets us free HBO. Now that I think about it she needs to call them again

I think with that success rate you oughtta call your beer store.

I have done the same thing many times.not to long ago I called my garbage pick up and told them I was canceling them cause they where charging to much for pick up.after a few minutes they dropped my bill $25 which worked out to $100 a year.
