Got a text message from a good friend yesterday....had a picture of his son-in-law & daughter's tailgate...COVERED & PILED HIGH with morels! And according to my friend..."Took them about an hour to find all of them". And "They're finding them everywhere" around Macomb, Illinois!
Macomb's about 3 hours southwest from my hometown. Might have to take a drive sometime soon.....
I never get paid what I think I should for my fur so I blame nafa and everyone else... except Steve.
Sure is tempting to take off for a day or two. I've got a cousin in Keokuk, IA that I could stay with. Just don't know if it's worth the gas money to drive down there. It's still possible for us to have a good crop here. I'm just thinking it's not likely that we will. If nothing else I may head north after they're done here and do some fishing and hunting. ;D

Really depends on the weather/conditions. Some years we'll find them in the bottoms/low lands. And other years they'll be on the hills or flats. Over all.....I've had my best luck in the hilly terrain. And the huge majority have been found around dead elms and ash trees.

I've heard stories, from my dad, about picking mushrooms in snow. Never did it myself though.
Just got in from a couple of hours hunting. NOT gonna be a bumper crop around here for sure! I found about 15 or 16 and they are looking pretty rough. Dad didn't find any today. His eyesight isn't near as good as it used to be. Don't know if I'll get out around home again this year. Pretty discouraging to walk as far as we did for no more than we found today.

Today was a sweet deal, found the most I've ever found. Now I've only been hunting shrooms for 4 years. But I did some clearing around some dead elms over last fall and winter just cleared the under brush and fallen tree but left dead and dying elms. I checked this spot today and found 58 yellows I was on the clock, the funny part I'm mowing and only have a full bucket of trash. I took my shirt off and filled in 4 minutes , I have to stay best 11 hr day of working yet! I will post pics tmrw just finished up frying up a bunch with some shish kabobs on the grill great dinner here. Happy happy happy

Well sure been a busy month here 10 & 11 hr work days, anniversary, birthday, fishing mushroom hunting, gardening and a whole other list of stuff. Now i have a little time today to get back to the swamp and share my finds this mushroom season. These pictures are from the past 2 days.
this new photobucket format sucks, took forever to figure out how to load these I'll figure out resizing another day, have another batch of shrooms to dehydrate to send to my Mom and my buddy. Swing by the meat market and split some wood. Not enough time in the day to get everything done I would like too
