no we have tested ours at 2% sugar and did not have enough to boil that day so it froze at night and it was still at 2% when we tested it after it thawed the next day.

Sap dont run when its cold so it doesnt really matter the sugar content should be about 2-3% and if it looks yellow in the bucket dump it out dont waste your time because that means its mostly water like rain water getting under your covers if your not sure if you should dump it or not yaste it and if it is bitter dump if sweet like sap should be collect it. If you have any other questions let me know im sure i can help iv been doing this my whole life so i know a good deal about it

when the weather stops fluctuating between freezing and thawing every day another words when the sap stops running and the season is done then pull the taps. don't leave them in all summer or longer than needed because it does not help the tree by any mean's. with in a while the tree will heal up just like when we get cut we will heal also. good luck!!!

No need to plug the hole and as said before when it stops freezing at night and warm in the day. Some pull when the tree starts to bud but it depends on your location and even elevation
