New to me wood stove for future deer shack

Hey all, thought I'd show the stove that my girlfriend picked up for me a few weeks ago from the scrap yard she works at. I'll be using it to heat the 12X12 shack I'm slowly getting materials together for.







I had a fire in it recently and cooked some sausages in a cast iron pan on top, good stuff! Can't wait to get the shack up, hopefully before bow season in October...



What's the best way to clean this up? I was thinkin' power sander and some vinegar in a spray bottle.

Last year I picked up a Lopi Freedom insert in roughly the same shape. I disassembledit and I wire brushed it, than sanded and sanded and sanded and sanded. When I got down to bare metal I painted it with five or six coats of Rustoleum Hi-temp BBQ paint. I did the same thing with the blower assembly. When I put it back together, I replaced the door gasket and ordered this etched glass for the door. We burned about four cords this winter and it heats even better than it looks!

Good find at the scrapyard. I hope you put a window or 2 in that 12x12. That sucka will drive you out of there.

Wow Bro. that is a whole lot of heater for a small place, you should be plenty warm.

Now THAT is a nice looking stove. Figured I'd be a sanding fool, lol. The shack will have at least 2 windows and eventually a screen door along with the steel one I already have, thanks for reminding me to get busy sourcing stuff. Local HFH stores carry windows and other goodies.

I'll post updates on the build once turkey season gets over at the end of the month, still trying for my first with a bow.
