anyone have experiance with hemlock siding? I'm considering having some trees milled up, and thought siding would be the best use of them. I'd like to do adirondack style (just like JC's cabin). I've heard hemlcok can be real tough to drive nails when dry - will a nail gun solve this problem?
I'm building two sheds, I think i will be able to get the first shed sided while the wood is still green, but the second shed might be a year out.
Personally I wouldn't recommend hemlock for anything other than framing lumber and fencepost. Hemlock is a wood that ALWAYS wants to twist. I don't care how hard you block in the ends of beams they still want to twist. Although I have never used it as siding, I bet it would twist like crazy and pull your nails out. It also shrinks a lot. Only pine or cedar would be my recommendation.
