I wanted to share this with you guys! I did an experiment when I was planting my gardens this spring and it’s work out better than I could of hoped….
We have a large fire pit, we have a lot of fires in it throughout the year…a lot of fires. Well, all of the ash builds up over time, so I decided to mix quite a bit of it into my cucumber garden bed…..fellas, it worked out amazing! My cucumbers are flourishing better than anyone else’s that I know who is growing them.
All I did for the ash is took a piece of hardware cloth over a 5 gallon bucket and sifted scoops of fire pit ash into the bucket, that’s it.
Give this a try next spring and see how it works for you! I did it and couldn’t be happier!
OBSESSED: A word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.

Thanks, that sounds like a good plan! I've got quite a bit of ashes, but am reluctant dumping it straight int the garden or compost heap. Looking forward to a cukes bumper crop next year!!!
All the ash out my woodstove goes right into my garden all winter long in the snow and mixed into the soil in the spring and we always have the biggest, fullest garden in the neighborhood. I've never sifted any of it except run a magnet out of an old speaker if you use any pellets for kindling because of the nails

John, I've heard lots of talk this winter abut how well ash works with Blueberry's as well. I'll have an update later in '15 on how this works out for me.
