This is probably common knowledge? Maybe not to the general population, but certainly to Swamptalk members. Well, just in case anyone hasn't heard of it before, or for a trip down memory lane. This is how we did it when our kids were young.
Since we always had a small flock that layed brown eggs, we would have to go to the grocery store for some white eggs.
And since we kept bees back then, there was always plenty of beeswax.
First thing is to save up a good supply of yellow (& or red) onion skins. (not hard to do for someone who is frugal anyway)
We would then write our names & draw designs & such, on the eggs with the beeswax, then boil the eggs with the skins & some vinegar.
After we tried it that first year, the kids didn't want to go back to using plain ordinary food coloring.
Even now, whenever I make some hard-boiled eggs I'll throw in a handful of onion skins ...perhaps just a reminder.
