The new year is just around the corner, what do you guy's have planned for this year?
I live in city, my yard is an 1/8 of an acre. So I have to go small. But I'm think we're ready to make a commitment to some urban homesteading. But I'm also a frugal SOB, so I want to do my projects as free as I can make them. I'm not apposed to work.
So far I my plans are:
A. Get my quail project up an running. I think I'm also going to build a small coup, and only keep my breeders in the hutch.
B. I got to plant a freaking garden, I've been saying this for years, but dang it, I got to start and this is my year (I Think).
C. Build some turtle traps, I've been wanting to do this, I've never eaten turtle. Plus I hear of a possible market for live turtles. This may be away to generated some extra funds to throw in the trap kitty. At-least make enough to buy my permit. Might make a editorial out of this one. But remember, I haven't done this before.
D. Learn how to deal with bird feeders, meaning me and the daughter built a special bird feeding area in our yard. But the mulched in flower beds below are a freaking pain in the rear to keep weeded. I might move this area, or change the beds below the feeders. Remember to keep our hummingbird feeders full. There's just something about humming birds, there cool.
E. Try and get some kind of harmony going in the yard, I'm afraid I'm going to get all this going, and the critter's are going to wipe me out. Coons, or should I say urban grizzlies abound by me. Skunks of plenty. And if where I live is not the possum capitol of the world it's dang close. Tree climbing, peach eating, ground hogs. Plus the bushy tailed, tree rat clans. I'm only interested in feeding my family.
So there are a few of things I'm thinking about as we head for spring, drawing plans/layouts. Looking for materials, stockpiling. An of course watching an reading what you guys are doing at your homes or gardens. I used to come to the Swamp and only post in the trapping threads, but I have found this spot to harbor a ton of info an some awesome ideas. You guys have got me hooked, so what are some of you guy's going to do this year?
