I used some Fox Farm Ocean Forest this year to start all my seeds indoors. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with their products as it's the first time I've tried them.
They seem to be doing great. Used a heat mat until germinated now just light 18 hrs a day. I read today that it is a hot soil and it may stunt growth. I haven't seen any issues. I actually thought they looked better than they had in years past.
Just curious if anyone had tried this stuff? Little pricy but I'm liking it so far.
Thanks,
Greg

I've seen it advertised...and it is kinda pricy, but I would like to know how you make out with that stuff...I'm always looking to fine tune the starter mix. This year I used peat mixed with worm castings and compost from my vermicomposting project. So far so good.

Well I was right thw ocean forest stunted growth. I started some others in Fox Farm Happy Frog. then transplanted into the ocean forest. Much better results. And to top it off my wife decided that the happy frog would be great for transplanting her house plants. Used a whole bag. OUCH! they should be touching the ceiling by May.

At the price of that stuff, will you be eating those houseplants or merely admiring them...lol I found a system that works for me....I use those little peat pellets to get things started, then when the plants have a good bite, but not before the roots start to poke out the sides, I xsplant into 3x3 or 4x4 pots with peat and home grown worm castings from a vermicomposting system. Seems to work well. Started green peppers 9 Mar and they are READY NOW for xsplant...will have to xsplant 1 more time to bigger pots...still to cold to plant.

Well, as a little update I'm very happy with the results of the fox farm soils. I'll be using them from now on. I'll start in the happy frog and transplant into the ocean forest. Combined with their fertilizer combos. I've never had plants take off the way that they did this year. As of now I have tomato plants approaching the six foot high mark. And I buried at least a foot of stalk when I put them into the garden. I know the stuff is pricey, but I'm sold.
