Spring time homestead projects

I think most of us have enjoyed a couple of days of nice weather. Has it got you thinking about spring projects or the garden?
As usual I'm working from behind and just started the most dreaded chore of cleaning up the front yard of leaves, sticks and nut leftovers. Besides just plain having a distaste for dealing with leaves, I like to let the squirrels take care of a ton or two of the hickory nuts that carpet the yard. # two on the early list is firewood for next year; cut, split and stack what I have on the ground now and choose a tree or two to knock down. #3 is start working on rehabbing the movable chicken pens and get ready for chicks.

Yup. That time of year to order a load of logs and get them all cut up before it starts to get to warm out. I will also be building a new trapping shed

The honey do list is long this year. Have some landscaping and tree planting projects to take care of for the misses, mixed in will be some food plotting, gardening, and I hope to get some bees back at the homestead this year.

I know that trapping season is winding down now, but let's transition fully into homesteading season and keep the conversation alive around here!

My projects all seem to run together and never stop, can't tell spring from summer or fall from winter with my projects.

I guess its time to get the cabbage, swiss chard, bok choy, and a few other cool season greens started so it will be ready to put outside around the first of April. Also need to inventory what I have left for seed from last year and order some new stuff. Won't be long now till its time to get my maters and peppers started. Also need to get the asparagus beds burned off, if this weather keeps up we will be eating fresh asparagus before we even know it. Fruit trees need pruned ASAP. Also got to rehab the chicken pen and get the brooder ready, oh and order chicks. Yikes spring is a busy time of year. Need to get the pig pen cleaned out as it is now sitting empty, although probably wont get piglets until the heat of summer. Seems like there is always something to do this time of year.

Does attempting to put a few long beards in the freezer count as homesteading projects? If so count me in, after all it isn't just about the hunt, I plan to smoke them up along side a hog I am roasting for a big family reunion this summer being held at my family's original MN homestead. I live in town and have a small chunk of property, by design, so I don't have many projects unless something breaks. I guess I do hope to do some remodeling of my cabin, if time allows.

I need to get a food plot going this year fix up a deer hunting blind and I'm going to try beekeeping this year so need to build some swarm traps and a top bar hive if the traps are successful lots to do
