Here's a relatively cheap way to make self feeders for deer. Start with a 4 foot section of 4" PVC. You will also need a 45 degree "Y" fitting in 4", a 4" cap, and a 4" rubber cap and hose clamp. Mark the "Y" fitting with a marker, (a horizontal line, if the fitting was standing straight up) and, using a jigsaw to cut out the excess top half, giving you a "flush" edge for the feeding trough. You can sand this afterwards for a smoother finsh. Next, glue on the PVC cap to the bottom of this. You can then drill a dozen 1/4" holes in the bottom for water to drain. Glue this assembly on the 4' section of PVC. You are now finished. Paint the entire set up in a brown, black or camo paint job. Spray paint works well. I wire the feeder to a tree, for easy mounting and removal. Once the feeder is in place, fill with shelled corn. Add you rubber cap and clamp to the top. This particular feeder holds about 20 lbs of corn.
thats the same way i make waterers for my hogs....are the deer afraid of them or do they just dive right in?, also large zip ties work well to hold the feeder, that is how i hold the one up for my pigs

CJ, Can you pm me the photo's of your deer feeders? The pictures are not coming out for some reason. All I see is red X's and I'd like to see how you make these. I put out alphalpha for them and I have dozens of them in the back meadow. I don't feed them near the barn or anything so that they don't become tame. They remain cautious that way but if I'm on my horse I can ride pretty close to them berfore they spook. They are pretty wooly right now.
Sorry...I deleted them out of the phtobucket account months ago. I'll re-load and post them back up soon. Better yet, I'll take some better pics this weekend and post them ;D
