Sorry, just can't help but think of warm weather thoughts. Want to try some new things in the garden this year and just wanted to see what everybody else thought. Do you prefer bush or pole green beans? I've always grown bush beans and had good success with them so I am reluctant to change over to pole, but I sure like the concept. Do they produce as much as bush? What kind of bean do you go with? What do you grow them on? I love my green beans but find they are the biggest pain in the back to harvest. Thanks, in advance for any info.

i've grown both an have to say pole beans produced 10 times as much , we grew them on a stretch of woven wire fence i drove 2x4s in the ground an run my fence on them, planted a hole row along it , we grew a stringless type , can't remember the name but i would use one that does well in ur area!
I have the best luck with bush beans...do you think it has to do with the different zones, or soil conditions??? I used to plant both types, but the bush ones always did better.
The one thing I really do like with the pole beans is that my Dad and elderly Aunt can pick them (if they have a craving) without bending over (and possibly falling)!!

I usually grow some of both. If you're set up right, the pole beans are easier to harvest. But I prefer bush beans because they don't seem to get 'seedy' as quick.
Use it up, wear it out. Make it do, or do without![/b]
We plant both. The bush beans produce quicker than the pole beans so it's nice to have an early harvest. The pole beans are much easire to pick with no strain on the lower back. The dog like the bush beans the best and sneaks her share whenever possible.
I like to set up a fence on the back perimiter of the garden and plant my pole beans there. They don't take up any garden space and it looks really nice when it's full of vines and beans. Makes for easy picking too cause I can walk down both sides of the fence for harvesting. ;D I like the look of the fence even without the beans. Just kinda gives that homesteader look to the back yard. ;D
