June 6-7, 2008 - Squam BioBlitz at the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center - a 24-hour, 3 pm to 3 pm event that includes fungi! Come help find some of the +/- 1000 species in our region! Walks will go out regularly to 19 different locales, most of which will include some good mushroom collecting areas. Two sites have been chosen specifically for fungi - Metcalf Preserve and Five Finger Point (both in Sandwich). The walk on Metcalf will start at 4 pm on Friday (meet there at 4 pm or at the Science Center at 3:30 pm). Its one-half mile up Sandwich Notch Road at the sharp bend; From downtown Sandwich at the blinking light head N up Grove Street, bear left at first fork on Mt Israel Rd and follow onto dirt road, bearing left on to Sandwich Notch Rd near end. The walk at Five Finger Point will begin at 9 am on June 7th. Meet at the Science Center at 8:30 am to carpool out to site. Leaders: Rick Van de Poll & Roz Lowen.
July 13, 2008 - Waterville Valley - Meet at Depot Camp at 1 pm.
Take Exit 28 in Campton on I-93 and follow Rt 49 towards Waterville Valley. When you come into Waterville and you're on Rte 49, take your first left as if you're going up to the ski area. After the Mobil station , you will see a fork in the road - a place where you can fork to the right. Take that right fork. [If you reach the ski area, you've missed the fork!] Leader: Roz Lowen.

August 24, 2008 - Wonalancet Intervale - Ferncroft at 1 pm
Wonalancet is about 7 miles north of North Sandwich on Rte 113A. Ferncroft Road diverges left at the sharp corner in Wonalancet just before the church (coming from N. Sandwich). The Ferncroft parking lot is about one-half mile up on the right. Leaders: Jean Hurley and Rick Van de Poll.
August 25, 2008 (Monday) - Castle-in-the-Clouds Foray - 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
This is part of a FREE weekly walk series throughout the summer sponsored by Castle-in-the-Clouds Antiquities Association. Meet at the Castle-in-the-Clouds in Moultonborough on Rte 171. Foray in surrounding woods. Leader: Rick Van de Poll
September 7, 2008 - Quincy Bog, Rumney - 9 am to 3 pm
This is an all-day workshop/foray for novice and intermediate mushroomers who wish to sharpen ID skills and learn basic microscopic technique. We will collect, examine, and key out dozens of species. An advanced training seminar for serious students of Mycology. This course will provide detailed instruction on microscopic technique, use of genus & species keys, as well as opportunities for ample collecting throughout the 25-acre field & forest setting. Begins Friday evening with dinner & introductory lecture/slide show, and continues through Sunday lunch. Cost: $250, includes all meals and accommodations & instruction.
